It is almost the end of 2015 -- where does the time go?

I am so happy to have made so many new friends this year. We’ve had some great laughs! And I am thankful for all of my blessings.

I read some blogs to try to get a feel for what a “blog” really should be. For me, blogging should be about my encounters with my customers. I am so grateful that you let me laugh and cry with you. I even attended some funerals this year for people that I only knew through the store. My life is enriched with the friendships we share.

One big joke I have told over and over is that Mother Nature and I broke up this year. She challenged me beyond what I thought I could handle, with spring so late, frost up to Memorial Day, etc. But thankfully, my beautiful customers did not give up on me (or on Mother Nature). The amount of extra work gave me a few extra gray hairs – but it was worth it. I think she may have heard me complaining -- as we are expecting an unseasonably warm winter. (If only I could believe I held THAT kind of powerJ!)

A few questions I am asked often:
Christmas Trees, etc.: this is the fourth year OERTHER’S is selling cut Christmas trees, wreaths and roping. We have a great Christmas tree farm in the area that we buy products from for re-sale here at OERTHER’S … you may just be hearing about this for the first time because I ramped up our social media about having them for sale.

Christmas Tree Lane: This is our fifth year of having the greenhouse open from Thanksgiving to January 1st with local crafters’ beautiful products displayed for purchase (talk about great gift ideas!) I appreciate you visiting these awesomely talented people’s booths at our location.

Hours: I am open year round. Come in to shop or just to talk and share a cup of tea or cocoa.

Planting: YES, we would be happy to help you plant a tree or bush from OERTHER’S for a small fee. We also deliver! PLEASE JUST ASK! The cost for delivery and planting depends on the distance and how much product we are planting for you.

Which reminds me -- SPRUCE STREET LANDSCAPE is here to help: We opened a second business in 2014 called SPRUCE STREET LANDSCAPE. Our hope with this second business was to help our customer’s with difficult yard projects like weeding, installing vegetable beds, and laying mulch. Many of you hired us for yard design work in 2015 and we appreciate you trusting us!! We pride ourselves on working closely with our customers so that what you envision is what we create.

Bulk stone coming in 2016: One new product line we will begin carrying in 2016 is bulk stone. Many of you are aware that we already have bulk mulch for sale and delivery in three colors + natural. We think carrying bulk stone and sand would be a natural fit for our businesses and your home projects.

I know you all know that I am not sitting around eating bonbons and enjoying a cup of hot coffee at the store. I am well aware of all of the big box stores around me. That is why we work so hard -- working for you, our customers -- to try and secure the best prices on products to keep you shopping with our local businesses, including OERTHER’S. Our local family, local store and local employees are sincerely grateful for our customers, especially this most beautiful and blessed time of year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS . . . and thank you for sharing a laugh or a story with me. My life is enriched by each of you!

Kathleen Oerther,
